Huge Inning Propels Cobras to Victory

May 20th, 2018

The Parkland Baseball team scored nine times in the 3rd inning Saturday as they defeated Lewis and Clark 10-5 in an elimination game at the Region 24 Tournament in Normal. PC (44-14-1) will take on Lincoln Land at 7:00 tonight at the Corn Crib. The Loggers hung on for a 9-8 win over Illinois Central earlier in the day.

After the Blazers picked up a run in the 1st to take the early 1-0 lead, PC would explode for nine runs in the bottom of the 3rd.  Damian Pierce walked to get things started and Alex Steinbach followed with a single. Brendan Joyce got PC on the board with an RBI double and Trevor Minder put PC ahead with a run scoring single. Connor Aube drove in two runs with a triple and Trystin Raikes brought him home with a double. Tyler Paulsen's two-run homer made it 8-1 and Brendan Joyce was hit by a pitch to force in the final tally.

PC extended their lead to 10-1 but the Blazers would tally four of their own in the 6th to cut the lead to 10-5. Cody Hawthorne (1-0) worked 4 solid innings of relief to earn the win as he allowed just one earned run while striking out seven. Four Cobra pitchers, Christian Sidoti (3), Colton Thompson (2), Hawthorne (7), and Evan Snyder (2) combined to strike out 14 on the afternoon. Paulsen, Joyce, and Aube each drove in two runs for the victorious Cobras.
