#9 Parkland Wins Wild One Over #11 Kankakee

May 10th, 2018

The #8 Parkland Baseball team rallied from an early 6-0 deficit Wednesday as they came back to defeat #11 Kankakee 10-9. The game was the first match-up between the two rivals since the semi-finals at last year's D-2 World Series. The Cavs won that game and went on to win their first championship. In 2009, the Cobras defeated KCC twice en route to their 2nd World Series title.

With the victory, PC improves to (39-12-1) ahead of a four game series with Lewis and Clark to wrap up the regular season. The Cobras will host the Blazers at 1:00 on Friday before travelling to Lewis and Clark on Saturday. KCC drops to (39-16) and saw their 12 game winning streak come to an end.

After spotting the Cavs a 6-0 lead, PC would tie the game scoring three runs in the bottom of the 2nd and three more in the 3rd.  In the 2nd, Nick Wisz singled to drive in a run while two more scored on an error by the KCC shortstop. In the third Wisz would score on a wild pitch and Brendan Joyce drove home two to tie the game.  KCC would regain the lead with two in the 4th and the score would stay that way until the 6th would PC would take the lead. Logan Pillars singled and raced home on a Trevor Minder base hit.  Connor Aube reached on a bunt single and two more runs would score on Tyler Paulsen's single. Up 9-8, PC added an important insurance run in the 7th as Alex Steinbach singled and later scored on a hit by Pillars.  The Cavs would pick up a run in the 8th and threaten in the 9th, but Tom Cheshareck struck out the final hitter of the game with the tying run on second base, to earn his first save of the year.

Despite the 10 run and 11 hit offensive explosion, the real story of the game was the Cobra bullpen. Cody Hawthorne, Sean Ferguson, and Cheshareck combined to work 7 innings allowing three runs on three hits while striking out 11. Winning pitcher Sean Ferguson was especially impressive as he tossed four innings allowing one run on one hit and striking out eight. Brendan Joyce had the big day at the plate with 2 hits and 4 RBI.
