Womens Soccer Dominates Season Opener

The Parkland Women's Soccer team scored seven times in the first half as they cruised to a 10-1 rout of visiting MCC-Maple Wood on a steamy afternoon at Parkland. The Cobras had 22 shots to just 4 for the Monarchs to help them start the season (1-0) while MCC-MW drops to (1-1).  Ellie McKenzie scored three times while Alyssa Jones, and Anna McHatton each scored twice to pace the attack.

 

Jones got PC on the board at the 18 minute mark, as the Cobra would score four times in a 10 minute span. McKenzie assisted on the opening goal and the two paired up again just 7 minutes later as this time McKenzie would score with Jones assisting.  Jones scored her second goal of the afternoon just two minutes later off a pass from Shania Maddux. Just two minutes later McHatton would score an unassisted goal to make it 4-0. 

 

The Cobras would score three more times before the half was over as McKenzie scored again, this time with an assist from Brooke Tozer. After the Monarchs would score their lone goal of the afternoon to cut the lead to 5-1, Dalia Santana scored an unassisted goal and Shonte Tremblett scored just before half off a pass from Hannah Martinez to give a 7-1 lead at the break. 

 

McKenzie would score her third goal of the afternoon off a McHatton assist just six minutes in to the second half before McHatton scored her second goal of the match with Tremblett earning the assist. Tremblett would again get the assist as Destiny Hudspeth rounded out the scoring.

 

Parkland (1-0) is off until September 7 when they will travel to Heartland for a 5:00 game against the Hawks.  That match will start a run of five games in ten days for the Cobras.

Parkland Men Make it Two Straight to Start the Season

Parkland College would welcome the #12 Jefferson College Vikings to Champaign and take down the visitors 3-1.  Johnny Pugh would get the Cobra scoring going, and Parkland would take that 1-0 lead into the half.  Jefferson would answer to tie the game, only to see Gesi Muharremi score to get the advantage back for Parkland.  Josh Littlewood would finish the scoring as he would put one in from deep and just slip it over the Viking goal keeper.  The win moves Parkland to (2-0) on the season and will take on Maple Woods on Sunday at 2

Mens Soccer Dominate SWIC in Season Opener

The ParklandMen's Soccer team got the 2016-17 school year off to an impressive start asthey routed Region 24 rival Southwestern Illinois College 9-0 in the seasonopener for both teams. PC jumped out to a 2-0 lead at half, and scored seventimes after intermission to blow open the match.  Seven differentCobras scored as PC had 15 shots on goal to just 4 for the Blue Storm.  Matt Sharman picked up the shutout in goal for the victorious Cobras.

FreshmanTanner Kidwell got PC on the board early as he connected for the Cobras firstgoal of the season on a pass from Patrick Kuanda just 7 minutes into the match.Kuanda would score a goal of his own at the 22 minute mark to give PC a 2-0lead. The Cobras substituted freely for the remainder of the half and settledfor the two goal lead at the break.

Parklandended any hopes of a SWIC rally as Kuanda connected with Johnny Pugh for a goaljust 35 seconds into the second half. Alex Zarco scored an unassisted goal justminutes later and Zarco fed Niles Smith, who found the back of the net to makeit 5-0 PC, with still over 30 minutes to play.

GesiMuharremi would celebrate his return to the Cobra Soccer program after missingthe 15-16 season by scoring Parkland's next two goals. The first unassisted andthe second on an assist from Henrique Santiago.  The Cobra were creditedwith a "team" goal for their 8th score and Carlos Martinez wrapped upthe scoring with his unassisted goal with just seven minutes left.   

The competition will get muchtougher for the Men this weekend when they host #13 Jefferson College at 4:00on Saturday. The Vikings (0-0) will open their season on Friday afternoon atSouth Suburban.  On Sunday the Cobfras will host MCC-Maple Woods. TheMonarchs (0-1) lost their season opener 2-0 to Coffeyville KS and will playHeartland at 2:00 on Saturday at Parkland.

2016 Parkland College Women’s Soccer Preview

WELCOME BACK COBRASPORTS FANS!!  In our first podcast for the 2016-2017 academic year, we feature the 2016 Parkland College Women's Soccer team.  They welcome in a new head coach, with Chris Jackson taking over for the departed Josh Alford.  Brian Schutte sits down with Coach Jackson to look back at the 2015 Cobras, as well as ahead to the 2016 squad.  Also on the program you will hear from Jenna Ashley, Hannah Martinez, and Marissa Barria.
