Parkland Runs By Olney Central for Second Time This Season

The Cobras had already traveled to Olney Central College and collected a big road win, and the end result was much the same on the home floor as Parkland would cruise by the Blue Knights 78-44.  Sophomore Hannah Wascher would pace the Cobra attack with 19 points, the majority of which in the first half.  Parkland would play good defense and get out in transition as they move their season record to (8-1).  Next up for the Cobras is a trip to Moraine Valley on 12/2.

Parkland Volleyball Finishes National Runner-Up

The Cobras would run out to a 2-0 lead over the surprise team of the tournament, the #10 seed Glendale CC, only to see the Gauchos fight back and win three straight sets to win their first national title.  Parkland would record their second consecutive National Runner-Up finish with an amazing two year record of 106-6.  This team was a blast to cover and a very talented group of student athletes.  Congratulations on another stellar season and although they couldn't bring home the title, its a great day to be a Cobra!

Cobras Advance To National Title Match for Second Straight Year

The #1 Cobras had a tough battle tonight in the NJCAA National Semifinal match vs #5 Columbus State. The Cougars brought in a 34-2 record in the match, and the two teams hadn't faced each other yet this year. CSU features the nation's highest team hitting percentage and led the nation in kills/set.

True to form, it was an offensive battle featuring lots of kills. The difference, however, was big Cobra blocks and blue-collar defense coupled with team confidence, effort and excitement as the Cobras swept the Cougars 25-23, 26-24, 25-16.

Lizzy Barnard had the match of her season with 11 kills, only 1 error, on 23 swings. She also collected 7 digs. Lori VanBeek continued her fine play with 8 kills and 7 blocks, and Elise Dahlke and Alayna Jackson collected 7 kills apiece. Madison Weldon (20 assists) and Morgan Hickman (16 assists and 9 digs) did another outstanding job distributing the offense, and Kaitlyn Hunt had another monster match in the back row with phenomenal serve receive and 13 huge digs. Kait's counterpart in the back row, Madison Harpest, dug 9 hard-hit balls and had a few service runs that helped push the Cobras to victory.

The win improved the Cobra record to 54-2 overall and more importantly propelled them to the National Championship match tomorrow against #10 Glendale (Arizona). #10 Glendale defeated defending national champion Cowley (Kansas) in the other semifinal match 28-30, 24-26, 25-19, 25-23, 20-18.

#1 Parkland Volleyball Back in Final Four

The #1 Cobras would continue their winning ways as the would win their second match of the day at the NJCAA D-II National Tournament.. This time is was the DMACC Bears on the other side of the net, as Parkland would take it 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 26-28, 25-20). The win propels the Cobras into the final four for the fourth straight year as they will take on Columbus State for a chance to play for the title Saturday..

Parkland Volleyball Wins First Match at Nationals

The Cobra Volleyball team would finally start the action in the 2014 NJCAA D-II National Tournament with a 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-10, 25-20) win over Metropolitan CC-Longview.  The #16 Lakers gave the Cobras a fight but Parkland would eventually pull away to advance to the quarter-finals.  M-WAC and Region 24 Player of the Year Lori Van Beek would lead the way with 12 kills.  Lizzy Barnard, Teigan Flaws, and Elise Dahlke would contribute 11,10, and 10 kills respectively in a balanced Cobra attack.  Sophomore libero Kaitlyn Hunt would lead the defensive effort with 20 digs, as Parkland will now face the #8 seed DMACC Bears.

Parkland Dominates Region 24 Opener

The #1 Parkland Cobras started off the postseason tonight hosting the District K semifinal match vs Rend Lake College.

PC swept Rend Lake 25-11, 25-19,  and 25-17. Teigan Flaws led the offense with 9 kills and had 4 blocks. Lori VanBeek had 6 kills and 6 blocks while Kailey Kleinert had 6 kills and 5 blocks. Morgan Hickman had 15 assists and 4 digs while Madison Weldon had 8 assists and Kelly Lean had 6. Kaitlyn Hunt led the back row with 12 digs, and Alayna Jackson had 4 service aces.

Parkland picked up their 50th win of the season tonight ahead of the Cobras next match and finals of the District K on Saturday at 4pm in Belleville, Illinois where they will take on Lincoln Land CC. The Loggers swept Lewis and Clark this evening in Springfield. ICC and Lincoln College will meet in the other District Final at 2:00. The winner of that match punches their ticket to Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona November 20-22.

Men’s Basketball Takes Home Opener for First Win of Season

After a tough opening weekend to start the season, the Parkland Men's Basketball team got a much needed win on Tuesday night as they rolled past Robert Morris University of Peoria (1-2) 89-46. The Cobras raced out to a 23-2 lead and never looked back as they improved their record to (1-2) on the season. 
 
The Cobras shot a sizzling 62% for the first half as JaQuan Bryant hit 4-5 from the field and 4-4 from the line to rack up 14 of his game high 21 points in the opening half. William Gary came off the bench to go a perfect 5-5 and score 11 as the Cobras ran out to a 53-21 lead at the half. 
 
Ten players got in to the scoring column for PC with Bryant leading the way with 21, Gary had 13, Cody Russell tossed in 12, and Corvon Butler finished with 11 points and 9 boards. PC shot 52% on the evening and out rebounded the visitors 53-28.  RMU was led by Shamar Hill who had 19 points and Champaign native Malik Williams who finished with 10. 
 
Parkland will return to action this Saturday when they host Lincoln Trail College of Robinson starting at 4:00.

Parkland Closes Regular Season With Sweep of South Suburban

The #1 Parkland Volleyball team conclude their regular season with an impressive 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-16) win over the Bulldogs.  The Cobras finish the season at (49-2) on the year as they will welcome the Rend Lake Warriors to Champaign on Wednesday night to kick off the Region 24 Tournament.  The remainder of Regionals will be played in Belleville,IL.

Parkland Sweeps Lincoln Trail for Second Time in Ten Days

The Cobra Volleyball team would start the final day of their regular season with an early match with Lincoln Trail, as they would cruise to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-8, 25-18) win.  The two teams played ten days ago at Parkland with the same 3-0 win by the Cobras.

Cobra Volleyaball Takes Down Lakers on Halloween Night

The Cobras would play their first match in the Parkland Halloween Invitational with a nice win over the Lakers of Lake Land 3-1 (25-5, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18).
