Women’s Soccer Falls to Lewis and Clark to End Season

October 30th, 2014

The Cobra Women would take the field in the Region 24 Semi-Final with a somewhat surprising win over Lewis and Clark in the regular season, only to see their season end with a 1-0 loss.  The Trailblazers would bring a potent scoring attack to Champaign after leading the nation in scoring on the year, but they would run into a stingy Parkland defense that kept them in the match the entire way.  The lone goal would come from the top scorer in the country in Miriam Taylor, with just under thirty minutes to go in the first half.  The Cobras would regroup at the half and come out firing in the second, but were unable to score and see their season come to an end.  The Cobra were not without chances as Ginyce Haywood would have her penalty kick saved by the Trailblazer keeper and Monica Armendariz would have a goal disallowed on a difficult off sides call.  Parkland finishes their season at (14-4).

Men’s Soccer Season Comes to End In Regional Semis

October 29th, 2014

The lone goal of the match would come just 90 seconds in as Dan Hughey would get credit for the goal as the ball would deflect of a defender and take a wild spin on the bounce and into the top corner of the net.  The Cobras would have their share of opportunities, the best of which Feli Keti would get a touch on a ball in the box that would hit the underside of the crossbar and come straight down, never crossing the goal line.  Parkland would have a few more chances late but were unable to keep their season alive as they fall to Southwestern Illinois College 1-0 in the Region 24 Semi-Finals.  The Blue Storm advance to take on #1 seed ICC Saturday in East Peoria. The Cobras finish their season at (13-4).

Parkland Starts Post-Season with Impressive win over Lincoln Land

October 26th, 2014
After a scoreless first half, the Parkland Men's Soccer team exploded for four second half goals, as they pulled away from visiting Lincoln Land isnthe opening round of the Region 24 tournament.

After failing to connect on several scoring opportunities in the opening half, including a penalty kick saved by the Loggers goalie, the Cobras didnt take long to get on the board after intermission. Feli Keti curled his shot around the keeper off a pass from Manny Rios to give PC a 1-0 lead.  Less than a minute later Zach Allevi put a perfect ball to Andreas Chalbaud and he found the back of the next for the Cobras second goal.  With Parkland now in a good flow on offense, Allevi and Chalbaud would connect again at the 60 minute mark to put the #23 Cobras up by three. That goal gave the Cobras some breathing room but LLCC was able to get on the board with just under 21 minutes on the clock. Lincoln Land looked like they might cut the margin back to a goal but could not covert and just a minute later Allevi found Brennen Kraft who calmly bent the ball around the keeper for the final 4-1 margin.

The win, coupled with Lincoln's upset win over Lewis and Clark, means the Cobras will now host a semi-final match this Wednesday at 2:00 against Southwestern Illinois College. The Cobras beat the Blue Storm 4-1 back on August 26 in Champaign.  SWIC (10-7-1) advances to the semi-finals by beating Heartland 1-0. Parkland Finishes Regular Season With Win Over U Of I Club

October 19th, 2014
Manny Rios scored the game winning goal with just under 15 minutes remaining as the Cobra Men's Soccer team rallied for a 3-2 win over the UI Club Team in their regular season finale.
Parkland found themselves behind 2-0 but Zach Allevi's header with just 42 seconds left in the opening half, off a ball from Jacob Sanders, sent the Cobras into the break down just a goal and with some much needed momentum.
Scoring chances were few and far between for much of the second half and it looked like the Cobras had missed on their chance to tie the match when Rios shot was saved by the UI goal keeper with just under twenty minutes left. Instead the Cobras kept up the pressure and Gesi Muharremi tied the match just three minutes later as he connected after a perfect pass from Caine Huart. Rios then broke the tie only two minutes later and the Cobra defense would step up for the rest of the match to preserve the win.
The Cobras (12-3) had 18 shots on the afternoon, 9 on goal, while the UI Club team had 9 shots, 6 on goal. Parkland will be off until Saturday October 25 when they will host Lincoln Land in the opening round of the Region 24 tournament. Game time is set for noon in Champaign.
