Women’s Soccer Blanks #18 STLCC

September 19th, 2013
The Parkland Women's Soccer team took out the frustration of losing three times to nationally ranked foes already this season as they blanked #15 St. Louis CC 3-0 in Champaign.  The Cobras, who had lost to the team ranked #3. #8, and #9 teams in the latest NJCAA Women's Soccer Poll, scored just three minutes into the match and never looked back in moving over .500 on the season.
Amparo DeLeon put the Cobras on the board early as she beat the goaltender with her shot on a perfect pass from Amanda Stoll.  The visiting Archers would play even with the Cobras for most of the first half until Ginyce Haywood's header, off a Kelsey Nystrom corner kick, put PC up 2-0 going into intermission.
Parkland would make sure there would not be a St. Louis second half rally as Haywood once again found the back of the net on a nifty move following another assist from Stoll just 36 seconds into the half.  Parkland goal keeper Beatriz Gomes was outstanding in goal as she left her feet on two occasions on what appeared to be St. Louis goals, denying them from scoring both times.  PC outshot STLCC  13-10 on the afternoon and finished with 8 corner kicks to just one for their opponent.
Parkland (4-3) is off until a September 25th Region 24 match in East Peoria against ICC. St. Louis, which saw it's six match winning streak come to an end, fell to (6-3-1).

#13 PC Rolls Past Kishwaukee

September 15th, 2013
The #13 Men's Soccer team used a five-goal second half outburst to rout visiting Kishwaukee 6-2 on Sunday afternoon in Champaign. The game started well for the Cobras as Kanyea Sayon scored just 22 seconds into the match to give PC a 1-0 lead.   But PC struggled for the remainder of the half as the visitors applied pressure and kept PC on their heels for much of the half.  Goalie Harrison Rook made an outstanding save on a penalty kick but the Kougars were able to score on a defensive breakdown later in the half to tie the game. The game would remain tied going into the break with each team taking just four shots in the half.

The second half was a much different story as the Cobras dominated from beginning to end. Aussie Zach Allevi would put PC on top for good as he scored on a perfect pass from Andres Chalbaud to make it 2-1 just 3:30 into the 2nd half. Rook would keep the margin at one as once again he made an outstanding save in goal to deny Kishwaukee from tying the match. The lead would remain at one before PC exploded for three goals in a five minute spurt in the 2nd half.  Damrion Hatfield's header, off a corner kick from Christian Romero, made it 3-1 at the 65 minute mark and just two minutes later Sayon scored his second goal of the game. Allevi would score his second goal of the match, and seventh goal of the season, just three minutes later to make it 5-1 with 20 minutes left.

The Kougars picked up a late goal but PC answered back as Zach Downing launched one over the goalies hands after a foul gave PC a free kick with just 3 minutes remaining.  Parkland was extremely efficient on offense scoring 6 goals on just 13 attempts on the afternoon. Sayon lead the attack with two goals and an assist while Allevi had two goals. Christian Romero had two assists and Leonardo Gill added one for the winning Cobras.

The Cobras (5-0-1) will have a week off before taking on the Valparaiso JV next Saturday afternoon at Parkland.

Parkland Dominates Region 24 Opener

September 11th, 2013
The Parkland Women's Soccer team scored 5 times in the opening half as they cruised to a 5-0 win over visiting Kaskaskia in a Region 24 game in Champaign on Wednesday afternoon.  Ginyce Haywood opened the scoring with a crafty move around a pair of Blue Angel defenders and then deposited the ball in the back of the net just 8 minutes into the match. Thirty seconds later, Michelle Smith found a wide open Leticia Rabello who pulled away from the KC defense to score again for PC.  It would be Rabello who would score again at the 16 minute mark as she picked up her second goal of the match with an assist from Emily Bushue.
Leading 3-0 it would be Amparo DeLeon's turn to get in on the scoring as she scored on a pass from Smith to make it 4-0 and then just a minute later picked up a rebound of a missed shot by Amanda Stoll and found the corner of the net to wrap up the scoring. PC had 12 shots on goal in the half to none for the visitors.
The second half saw lots of substitutions and strong play but no more goals. It was a much more even half as the Cobras had five shots on goal after the break to four for KC.  Next up for the Cobras (3-2 1-0) will be a Region 24 showdown with #10 Lewis and CLark (5-0 2-0) on Saturday in Godfrey. The winner will take command of the lead and the likely top-seed in the Region 24 standings.

Men’s Soccer Finishes Strong Weekend With Another Win

September 9th, 2013
For the first time all season the Parkland Men's Soccer team found themselves behind at the half as they trailed East Central College of Missouri 1-0 at the break. The Spartans Steve Smith found the back of the net 19 minutes into the game to grab the early lead. It was an evenly played half as EC out shot PC 6-4 with each goalie making three saves.

The second half was a different story as the Cobras wasted little time getting on the board as Andres Chalbaud found the back of the net on a pass from Zach Allevi just one minute into the half. The game would remained tied until Allevi would scored with an assist from Kanyea Sayon just 10 minutes later to give the Cobras a lead they would not give up.  Leading 2-1, PC would control the remainder of the half taking 8 shots to the host 4 during the final 45 minutes.  Goalkeeper Julian Threlkeld (Urbana) got his first start of the season and picked up his first win making four saves in the victory.

Parkland is now off to an impressive (3-0-1) start with a win over #9 Jefferson and a tie with #7 Cincinnati State to start the season. PC will be off until next Saturday when they travel to Region 24 and M-WAC nemesis Lincoln College. The Lynx have ended the Cobras season each of the past three years.

Cobra Women Kick Off Home Schedule With Blowout Win

September 7th, 2013

Eleven different players contributed to the scoring on Saturday as the Parkland Women's Soccer team pounded helpless Elgin 11-0 in Champaign on Saturday. The Cobras had 32 shots on goal to just 1 for the Spartans as PC picked up the win after a trio of tough games last weekend in Minnesota.

Marissa Espinoza had three goals, all in the second half, to pace the Cobra attack while Ginyce Haywood added 2 goals and an assist and Leticia Rabello had a goal and three assists. PC jumped on top with two goals in a matter of a minute in the first half as Haywood scored an unassisted goal and just 52 seconds later Amanda Stoll scored on a pass from Rabello. Emily Bushue scored on a cross from Hannah Walker an Ali Host made it 4-0 at intermission on a cross from Kelsey Nystrom.

The second half was more of the same as the Cobras peppered the Elgin goalie with shot after shot as Espinoza scored three times to go along with goals by Rabello, Haywood, Alex Radue, and even an own goal by the Spartans.

The victory evens the Cobras record at (2-2) ahead of a key Region 24 showdown on Wednesday September 11th against Kaskaskia. The game is scheduled for 4:00 in Champaign.
