Cobra Soccer Completes Another Shutout

September 12th, 2012
The Parkland Women's Soccer team out shot their guests from Lincoln 13-1 on Wednesday and cruised to a 3-0 win over the Lynx in Region 24 play. The win moves PC to (3-0-1) ahead of a Friday 4:00 non-conference home game against Prairie State.
Despite controlling the tempo from start to finish. PC did not find the back of the net until 26 minutes into the match when Breeanna Barazza scored with an assist to Alex Radue. That would be all of the scoring in the opening half as the Cobras took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
It would take only three minutes to get on the board in the second half as Kelsey Nystrom made a shot with an assist from Keren Sharabi.  Sharabi would score the final goal of the day as she converted on a free kick at the 54 minute mark. PC would have several more chances to score but could not connect, however a strong defensive effort helped preserve the shutout.

Parkland Men Knotch First Win of 2012

September 6th, 2012

After three consecutive losses to start the season, all by just one goal in each match, the Parkland Men's Soccer team took out their frustrations on Wednesday as they routed Southwestern Illinois College 5-1. The result was somewhat unexpected as the Blue Storm had started the season a perfect (4-0) winning by a combined score of 13-3, including wins over fellow Region 24 foes Heartland and Kaskaskia.

On Wednesday it was all Cobras as PC got on the board at the 15 minute mark of the first half on set piece served by Daniel Vargas to Morgan Lewis who won a header and Luke O'Neill put the shot away. That would be the only scoring in the opening half but PC would erupt after intermission. In the 54th minute,  keeper Yuri Marcos punted the ball to the SWIC side of the field and Jesus Morales out ran the opposition and converted to make it 2-0. Morgan Lewis made it 3-0 just eight minutes later as he scored on an assist from Leo Gill. Gill would also assist on the next goal as he passed to Alonso Torres who beat the Blue Storm keeper to score.  Torres scored again in the 88th minute with an unassisted shot. SWIC was able to score in the final minute of the match to avoid the shutout.

PC (1-3) will travel to Michigan this weekend where they will face #7 Schoolcraft (3-1-1) on Saturday and Marygrove College on Sunday.
