The No. 17 NIACC Trojans got a lot of help from newcomers as they edged Parkland College 2-1 in the second match of the NIACC Kickoff Classic on Saturday.

Freshmen forward Dan Johns (Plymouth, England) and midfielder Ben Hutchings (Yateley, England) each scored a goal, while Stuart Mitchell (Fr., Waterford, Ireland) recorded an assist.  Goalkeeper Patrick Kinsella (So., Frimley, England) came up with five saves.

Johns converted the first goal on a penalty kick just a couple of minutes into the match to give NIACC a quick 1-0 lead. Haman Jaman (So., Roseville, MN) drew the penalty kick as he was dragged down in the goalie box while breaking away from a Parkland defender. The Cobras got on the board just before halftime when Aaron Gantt was able to get a shot by Kinsella in the 44th minute, leading to a 1-1 tie at the break.

Hutchings broke the tie with the game deciding goal in the 73rd minute while in the middle of a scrum in front of the net. Hutchings scored against goalkeeper Jason Saucedo after rebounding a shot by Mitchell.

UPDATE:  In Sunday's play - The Parkland Men's Soccer lost to nationally eighth ranked Iowa Western CC on Sunday afternoon.
