Softball Takes DH From Lincoln College: Game Two

April 30th, 2011

Jenna Harshbarger pitched her final home game for the green and gold today, and her team came to life at the plate enroute to a mercy-rule win against the Lynx of Lincoln College.  The Cobras jumped on the Lynx in their half of the 1st with 5 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks.  Jenna ran her record to 11 up and 8 down.  Brittany Einck hit her 3rd home run of the year along with a double, driving in 2 runs.  Macy Shupe continued her hot streak at the plate with 2 hits, while Kaitlyn Winkler and Livvy Phillips each drove in 2 runs.  Amy Simpson pitched well in relief in the last inning.  After the game, all the PC sophomores, their fans, families, and friends gathered for a nice barbeque and some heart felt testimonials from the sophs.  Ladies, you did great things here and more great things lie ahead for you as well...  Good luck at regionals from all of us at CobraSportsNet.

Softball Takes DH From Lincoln College: Game One

April 30th, 2011

On Sophomore day, Kelsi Hoey pitched well enough coming off a nice win in her previous start, while Cobra bats rapped out the hits, making it a run-rule win for the Parkland Cobras on Saturday in game one of the double header.  Hoey (13-7) took full advantage of the Cobras offensive attack as Erika Fitzgerald set the pace for the offensive collecting 3 hits, 2 doubles while hitting her 2nd home run.  Erika had 3 RBI for the game.  Macy Shupe,  Sam Inman, Sarah Frerichs and Sierra Redmon all had two hits.  Inman hit her team leading 7th home run of the year - a laser shot - in the 1st inning. Brittany Einck's double plated 2 runs for PC.  The Cobras pounded out 15 hits in the contest.

Playing in a 25-35 mile per hour breeze didn't seem to faze the green and gold as they scored early and often.  The wins put PC at (35-17 22-6) as the Cobras will wait to find out on Tuesday their seed and opponent for the upcoming Region 24 tournament.  The three-day event begins on Thursday at the Roundhouse Complex in Mattoon.  CobraSportsNet producer Steve Brown will be there for the live play-by-play.

Game 2:    Parkland 5  ICC 4

The freshman lofted a deep sacrifice fly to left center field which easily scored Sam Inman from third as PC grabbed a 5-4 lead.

Kelsi Hoey (12-7) earned the win as she worked out of an ICC threat in the bottom of the inning. On Wednesday, April 20th, the coaches, friends, families and fans of the 2010-2011 Cobra women's basketball team met to pay tribute to a basketball team that achieved more than any previous edition of the green and gold.  CobraSportsNet was there as an invited guest, but we couldn't resist the temptation to "go back to work" and record the event so we could present it to you as well.  The honors lasted a little over an hour, so we've edited the events, focusing on coach Karrie Redeker's keynote address.  We hope you enjoy the festivity.

April 27th, 2011
Bo Weir worked a strong 6.1 innings to earn the win and Dane Krone got the final out as the Parkland Baseball team knocked off rival Danville Area CC 6-2 on Tuesday night at Danville Stadium.  Weir, a freshman lefty, improved to (3-1) striking out a career high 12 allowing just two runs on four hits.
PC would jump out early as Jordan Parr and Joey Migliaccio opened the game with back to back singles and Parr would race home on an infield ground out.  Jeff Limbaugh would follow with an RBI single to put the Cobras up 2-0.  DACC cut the margin in half with a solo run in the 3rd but PC answered back as Jake Pewitt reached on an error and scored on a Parr double.
The Cobra added another insurance run in the 6th on a Pewitt double and tacked on two more in the 7th as Wes Minton and Bryce Feller each drove in a run.  The Jaguars would score a two-out run in the seventh before Krone retired the final hitter on a ground ball to second.

Time Out With: Dayna McNutt

April 27th, 2011

Last week, Parkland softball player Dayna McNutt became a broadcaster (and a pretty good one too).  You can find those podcasts elsewhere on this web site.  Prior to her "impromptu debut" as a color commentator, Dayna spent a few minutes during the week preceding the broadcasts with CobraSportsNet producer Ryan Ifft.  As we join the interview, Ryan has asked Dayna how she came to be a Cobra...

Cobras “Pecked Apart” By Low-Flying Hawks

April 25th, 2011

In softball news and notes:

Game 1:

Heartland 8      Parkland  0

With the score 0-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd and no one on and two out, Heartland got 2 infield singles which led to their first two runs.  That was all the Hawks needed, due to lack of offense by the Cobras.  Kelsi Hoey (11-6) took the loss on the mound for Parkland.

Game 2:

Heartland 9   Parkland  1

The Hawks got 3 runs in the 1st inning on 3 hits, a walk, and an error.  As in game one, the Cobras produced no offense to combat the runs HCC was putting on the board.  Sarah Gray did have two hits in the game, but there was far too little from the rest of the team.  Jenna Harshbarger (10-6) was tagged with the loss.
