Baseball Splits Double Dip

Despite having never practiced outdoors this spring, the #5  Parkland College Baseball team put forth a strong effort splitting a doubleheader with NJCAA D-1 #13th ranked  Jefferson College of Missouri.  Jefferson College won the opener scoring an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the last inning but Parkland rallied for a 9-4 win in the finale.

Danny Winkler (0-1) was the hard luck loser in game one, working 6 2/3 solid innings allowing just one earned run on four hits. The Cobras were held to just three hits in the contest with T.J. McManus driving in the lone run with a single in the 6th.

Jake Frerichs (1-0) picked up the win in game 2, working 4 solid innings while Nick Wittgren pitched the final 2 1/3 to earn his first save. The Cobras put together five straight hits in the 3rd to grab a 3-0 lead and after Jeff. Co tallied a run the Cobras answered back with two more in the fifth.  Leading by just a run going into the 6th, PC scored thee times with Dylan Drury and Colin DeDecker delivering the key hits.  The Cobras banged out 14 hits in the finale as Kevin Kiermaier went 3-4 and scored twice, while Drury and DeDecker each had two hits and drove in a pair. Eric Abel also collected two hits for Parkland now (1-1) on the season.

PC will return to action next weekend as they play in the USA Stadium JUCO Classic in Millington, TN. Parkland will play Carl Sanburg and Iowa Central on Friday, Lake Land and Muscatine on Saturday, and St. Louis Florissant Valley on Sunday.
