Frazier Buries Jaguars With Late Basket

March 1st, 2017

Chelby Frazier’s 5 footer with 1.4 seconds left on the clock, helped the #7 Parkland Basketball team to an exciting 63-61 win over rival Danville to keep their winning streak alive at 18 games. Danville was able to get off a last second three-point shot but Jordan Gray’s attempt fell short as PC held on for the win.

The game was a back and forth affair with neither team leading by more than six points during the contest.  The Cobras led for most of the first half but DACC made a late run and took a 28-27 lead into intermission. After PC’s Terrion Howard hit a three to start the second half, DACC would score the next points to take a 34-30 lead.  The Jaguars would take their biggest lead at 54-49 with 8:05 left before PC would regain the lead with a 7-0 run. Luke Beesley made his lone basket of the game to cut the lead to three before Cortez Dixon hit a three to tie the contest with 6:30 to go.  Devonte Daniels would give PC their first lead  since the opening seconds of the second half as he scored with 4:50 to go.

DACC would tie the game with a pair of free throws but Frazier and Jarret Olson would make 3 of 4 at the line to give Parkland a 59-56 lead. DACC would not go away as Vakemeyus Davis hit his only three point attempt of the game to tie the score at 59 with 2:20 left.  Both teams would have their chances to score but it was Parkland’s Cornelius McIntosh who gave PC the lead again at 61-59 with 1:15 remaining.  After both teams failed to score on their next possession, Danville’s DeShawn Wilson was fouled with 15.1 left and sank both free throws to tie the game again. After a timeout, PC held for the final shot and Frazier calmly drove in for the game winner. It was Frazier’s second game winner of the season as he did the same in an overtime win at Lincoln.

Courtez Dixon and Cornelius McIntosh each scored 13 points to pace PC while Frazier finished with 12.  Davis led DACC and all scorers with 22 points and 10 boards.  Jordan Gary finished with 15 for the Jaguars. PC won despite being outshot and outrebounded by DACC. The Jaguars shot 48% to just 39% for the Cobras, made 87% of their free throws to 55% for PC, and grabbed 34 boards to 26. The Cobras won the game by making 11 three’s to just two for DACC while turning the ball over just 8 times.

The Cobras (24-3 9-0) will try to wrap up an unblemished conference season when they travel to Lincoln Land for their regular season finale at 3:00 Saturday in Springfield.  DACC drops to (14-12 3-6) and will host ICC in their last regular season game.
