November 30th, 2017

Devonte’ Daniels hit back to back three’s and Marcus Latham made 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch, to help the Parkland Men’s Basketball team pull away for an 84-77 win over visiting Kankakee.  The win moves the Cobras to (7-1) while NJCAA D-1 Kankakee drops to (2-5).

The game did not start well for the Cobras as the Cavaliers hit 8 of their first 10 shots to grab an early 17-7 lead.  PC would scratch and claw back into the contest and trailed just 43-42 at the break despite KCC shooting 63% in the half.  PC would score the first points of the second half to grab their first lead but KCC would rally and led 66-62 with just 4:03 remaining.  From that point it was all Cobras as they outscored the Cavs 22-11 to close out the win. Marcus Latham cut the deficit to one with an old-fashioned three-point play and after a KCC turnover, Latham would make 1-2 at the line to tie the contest at 66. PC would force another turnover and Daniels drilled a three to put PC up by three with 2:30 to go.  After Daizon Scott knocked down a couple of free throws to cut the lead back to one. Daniels would hit another three and added a two-point field goal follwoing another KCC turnover. Leading 74-68 with 1:18 left on the clock, Latham would make 6-6 at the charity stripe in the final minute and Myles Simmons added a pair of free throws to seal the victory.

Latham was one of five Cobras in double figures as he finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Simmons tossed in 15 points while Dirk Jordan and Isaiah Curry each had 12.  Daniels finished with 10 points, eight  of them coming in a 1:21 stretch late in the contest.  KCC was led by Christian Jacob who had 17 points and Micah Rosser and Daizon Scott each with 16.  The game was won at the free throw line as the Cobras made 19-24 (79%) to just 11-21 (52%) for the Cavs. PC also won the battle of the boards 33-25 and forced 13 second half turnovers.
