Cobras Avenge Earlier Loss by Knocking Off John Wood

February 24th, 2018

The #4 Parkland Men used a strong team effort Saturday afternoon as they pulled away from #20 John Wood 72-57 in an important M-WAC and Region 24 showdown.  The win, coupled with Danville’s win at Lincoln Land, leaves the Cobras, Jaguars, and John Wood in a three-way tie with two games to play.

Playing in front of a big Hall of Fame Day crowd, PC jumped out quickly as they took an early 15-7 lead and extended it to 23-11 at the 10:45 mark. John Wood would claw back to within four at 29-25 with 1:15 til half but the Cobras would score the final four points to take an eight point lead into intermission.  The Cobra lead would stay between 7 and 12 points for most of the half until the Blazers would close to just five at 53-48 with just 6:24 to go.  From there Isaiah Curry made an old-fashioned three-point play and Jalen Addison knocked down a three to extend the lead to 59-48 and PC would pull away down the stretch.

Parkland shot 46% on the day to just 38% for John Wood. The Cobras were particularly effective at the line as they made 15-17 to just 11-22 for JWCC.  Four players finished in double figures for PC with Marcus Latham leading the way with 17 points.  Isaiah Curry added 15 points and 8 rebounds, DeVonte’ Daniels added 11 points and 6 boards, while Jalen Addison came off the bench to score 10.

Parkland is now (21-5 6-2) while John Wood drops to (18-10 6-2).  The Cobras will travel to Danville (22-5 6-2) on Wednesday night for a 7:30 showdown with the rival Jaguars.Parkland will close out the regular season with a  home game against Lincoln Land.
