Cobra Men Defeat Rival Lincoln

September 10th, 2017

The Parkland Men’s Soccer team scored two goals over a two minute stretch in the 2ndhalf Saturday, as they blanked rival Lincoln College 2-0 in a Midwest Athletic Conference showdown. The win improves Parkland to (4-2 2-0) while Lincoln drops to (3-2 1-1). PC is off until Thursday September 14 when they will host Lewis and Clark at 4:00. The #19 Blazers are currently (4-0) ahead of a Monday match against St. Louis CC and have outscored their opponents 20-2 so far this season.

On Saturday the two teams played an exciting first half despite neither team being able to score a goal. The Lynx had 7 shots on goal with two hitting the posts and two more being stopped by outstanding saves by the Cobra defense and keeper Lorenzo Giaretti.  The Cobras also had their chances but strong keeper player denied PC any scores.

The Cobras would begin to control the flow of the game in the second half and took advantage of A Lincoln foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick.  Chen Levien was awarded the shot and calmly got the ball into the corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.  Just two minutes later, PC would score again as the Cobras got behind the Lynx defense as Zachary Gowlett scored off an assist from Jesus Reina.  The Cobras would control the ball over the final 30 minutes to secure the win, Parkland’s third straight shutout this season.  Giaretti had 8 saves on the afternoon as PC out shot Lincoln 12-8 for the match.
