Big Region 24 Win for Cobras Over ICC

The #2 ranked Parkland Cobras hosted #6 ICC tonight and the Cobras swept the Cougars 25-16, 25-19, and 27-25. Fia Willis notched 16 kills and 15 digs, Alivia Dew had 12 kills and 3 blocks, and Eloise van Velthooven had 11 kills and 9 digs. Bailee Dunne led the defense with 21 digs Middles Gabby Morrow (4 kills on 4 attempts and 2 blocks) and Gillian Jones (2 kills and 4 blocks) helped keep the ICC offense off-balance all night while setter Leah Anderson and her 40 assists did the same to the defense.

Parkland improves to 27-1 over-all while ICC falls to 14-4 on the season.  The Cobras travel south on Sunday for PC's final two Region matches vs Frontier and Lincoln Trail.With two wins, the Cobras wrap up the important 1 seed for the Region 24 tournament starting at the end of October.


Rematch of Last Years National Final Goes Way of the Cobras

The #1 ranked Parkland Cobras battled #7 Lincoln Land in a rematch of last season's national championship match, and while the first two sets were tight, PC earned the convincing sweep with an impressive 25-22, 26-24, 25-14 victory.
Fia Willis led the offensive effort with 18 kills. She also notched 10 digs and 2 blocks. Alivia Dew had another successful match with 11 kills and 2 blocks. Leah Anderson had 5 kills and 30 assists while Bailee Dunne led the defense with 19 digs. Eloise van Velthooven notched 4 kills, 10 digs and 2 service aces as well.

The Cobras improve to 16-0 overall and 2-0 in the M-WAC Conference. PC travels this weekend to Belleville, IL for four matches at the Southwestern Illinois College Invitational before heading to Godfrey, IL next Wednesday for another conference match-up with Lewis & Clark.



Cobra Volleyball Takes Down Lincoln in First Home Contest

Parkland hosted M-WAC foe Lincoln College this evening. The Cobras brought a 4-0 record and Lynx 4-1 overall record into the contest, and PC prevailed in four sets. After breezing through the first set 25-13, some unforced errors and inspired play from Lincoln gave the Lynx the set and tied the match at 1-1 with a 27-29 second set. But Parkland regrouped well and played clean yet aggressive the rest of the way with 25-6 and 25-11 wins in sets 3 and 4.

The pin hitters for Parkland made the offensive damage tonight with Fia Willis (22 kills), Eloise van Velthooven (21 digs) and Alivia Dew (10 kills) consistently keeping the Lincoln defense off-balance. Leah Anderson notched a career high 54 assists, and Gillian Jones had her own career high with 8 blocks. Willis also notched 19 digs, Bailee Dunne had 18 and van Velthooven had 12. Maggie Sorenson served 3 aces while Anita Jenkins, van Velthooven and Willis had 2 apiece.

Parkland improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in M-WAC play. PC travels to Toledo, Ohio for six matches Friday-Sunday including three against 2016 National tournament teams in #4 Catawba Valley (NC), #13 Grand Rapids (MI) and D-1 #25 Wallace State (AL). First match is 10am EST Friday morning vs. Catawba Valley.


Cobras Take Down Lake Land for Second Time

Parkland College Men's Basketball team improved to (5-1) today with an 85-72 win over Lake Land. Cobras were led by Terrion Howard with 17 and Luke Beesley with 15. PC travels to Region 24 rival Rend Lake on Tuesday night.


Volleyball Dominates Frontier in Region 24 Opener

The #1 Cobras kicked off regionals tonight vs Frontier CC, and PC earned another sweep 25-9, 25-8, 25-16. Taylor Bauer earned a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs. Laura Gross and Fia Willis had 7 kills each, and Gross also scored on 3 service aces.  Alayna Jackson had 6 kills and a new career high 11 blocks while Gabby Pearl also had 5 kills in the match. Jaime Johnson secured 27 assists for the Cobras in two sets of play.


With the win, PC improves to 47-2 overall. More importantly, the Cobras will play the District Championship on Saturday at 2:00pm at ICC against Lewis & Clark CC who won their match over SWIC tonight. With that win, the Cobras will earn their ninth consecutive National Championship berth, this time in Charleston, WV in mid-November.

Parkland Volleyball Opens Home Schedule With Win

The #1 ranked Parkland Cobras volleyball team celebrated the first home match of the year with a 3-0 sweep of M-WAC foe Lewis & Clark CC 25-9, 25-8, 25-15.

The Cobras hit a blistering .545 on the evening with 45 kills. The balanced attack was led by Laura Gross (9 kills), Taylor Bauer and Alivia Dew (8 kills apiece), and Eloise van Velthooven (7 kills). Dew had a perfect hitting scoring 8 kills on 8 attempts. Sofi Kelemete had 5 kills and 5 blocks. Libero Virtuous Thomas notched 10 digs, and Jaime Johnson scored 5 aces, had 18 assists and 9 digs.

The Cobras improve to 11-1 (1-0) ahead of traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the Kirkwood CC Invitational this weekend. PC will face a quarter of Top 20 teams in #5 Johnson County (KS), #7 Central Nebraska, #13 McHenry (IL) and #16 Cowley County (KS). All four teams advanced to the 16-team field at Nationals in 2015 so it's expected to be the Cobras' toughest tournament of the season.


Parkland Has Amazing Honor With National Player and Coach of the Year from AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. (December 10, 2015) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association is pleased to announce Parkland College freshman middle blocker Sofi Kelemete as its 2015 AVCA Two Year College National Player of the Year and her head coach Cliff Hastings as the National Coach of the Year.  


The formal presentation of the AVCA Two Year College National Player of the Year will be made Dec. 18th in Omaha, Nebraska at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet held in conjunction with the 2015 AVCA Convention and NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball National Championships. Hastings will also be honored at the AVCA Convention at the Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon on December 17th.

 This is the first time ever that a Parkland player or coach has been named the top person in their respective category. The AVCA, unlike the NJCAA, covers all three divisions of the NJCAA as well as the California Division of two-year programs.

Cobra Volleyball Back to National Tournament

The #1 Cobras faced the 22-15 Lewis & Clark Trail Blazers today for a bid to Nationals, and the Cobras won in convincing fashion 25-15, 25-17, and 25-19 to earn their 8th consecutive trip to the NJCAA D-2 National Tournament.  The offense was well-distributed with Laura Gross (9 kills), Lizzy Barnard and Miaya Peacock (7 kills each), and Hayley Gray and Sofi Kelemete (6 kills each) leading the way. Jaime Johnson collected 25 assists and Kell Lean had 10. Kailey Kleinert led the block with 8 while Peacock led the back row with 19 digs, and Madison Harpest and Barnard had 11 apiece.


The Cobras improve to 53-0 overall but more importantly punch their Nationals ticket to Phoenix, Arizona November 18-21. Parkland will find out their seed and future opponent later this week.


Cobras Advance to Regional Final With Win Over Rend Lake

The Parkland Cobras kicked off Regionals tonight with a 3-1 win over Rend Lake 25-9, 25-16, 17-25, 25-17. Miaya Peacock, Lizzy Barnard and Rowan Crozier led the attack with 8 kills apiece. Madison Harpest collected 23 digs while Barnard (15 digs) and Peacock (12 digs) joined Harpest to make a strong defensive effort. Jaime Johnson and Courtney Moritz each had 20 assists while Kailey Kleinert had 6 blocks in the match.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

PC improves to 52-0 ahead of the final regional match on Saturday vs Lewis & Clark at 2:00pm at Lincoln Land CC in Springfield, IL. With a win in that match, Parkland will advance to Nationals for the eighth consecutive year. The NJCAA National Tournament will be held in Phoenix, AZ, November 19-21.


#1 Parkland Finishes Regular Season Unbeaten

PC hit the half-century mark in wins for the third season in a row with the victory. After hitting #50, the Cobras hoped to maintain focus to achieve #51 and finish the regular season with a perfect mark. And PC did just that in the final match of the tournament, sweeping Illinois Valley CC 25-8, 25-11, 25-17. 


Ayla Dew and Taylor Bauer finished with 7 kills each while Gabby Pearl, Rowan Crozier, Barnard and Peacock all notched 4 apiece. Bauer scored on 3 service aces, and Virtuous Thomas led the defensive play with 11 digs. Pearl, Kelemete and  Jacey Lewis each had 4 blocks in the match. 


Parkland finishes their regular season at 51-0; PC plays the District semifinals on Wednesday night vs the winner of Rend Lake and Lincoln Trail. That match will be at Parkland at 6pm. With a win, the Cobras will play for the title on Saturday at 2pm at Lincoln Land (Springfield). That match will decide the team that advances to Nationals in Phoenix, AZ in mid-November.


Dangerous Sauk Valley Squad No Match for Cobras

The Cobras kicked off day #2 of the Halloween tournament against another Top 20 foe in #14 ranked Sauk Valley. Sauk is an athletic team, but PC overwhelmed the 29-5 team right from the beginning with Laura Gross slamming some of the most ferocious kills of the season. Gross finished with 14 kills and just 1 error on 21 attempts for an outstanding .619 hitting percentage in the 25-12, 25-19, 25-14 sweep. 


Lizzy Barnard had 10 kills, and Sofi Kelemete had 6 kills, 7 blocks and 3 service aces. Kailey Kleinert notched 5 blocks as well. Miaya Peacock led defensively with 17 digs, and libero Madison Harpest had an outstanding match with 16 digs and 2 service aces. Setters Jaime Johnson and Kelly Lean excelled in the match with Johnson dishing 26 assists and serving 3 aces while Lean had 12 assists as well.
