April 22nd, 2018

Game 2:

After neither team scored in the first two innings, PC broke the game open with a  five-run 3rd, scoring all five runs after two were out.  The inning started quietly enough as the first two hitters grounded out but then Lauren Spelich was hit by a pitch, Kyliegh Basham singled, and Ivy Nichols walked to load the bases. Shelby Youngblood plated the first two runs with a single and Kirbie Mendenhall cracked her first home run of the season, a three run shot.  Lincoln got two of the runs back in the 4th inning but PC answered back with four runs in the 5th to end the game. PC used six straight singles in the inning as Basham and Youngblood each drove in a pair. Youngblood went 3-3 with 4 RBI in the game while Basham had two hits, scored twice, and drove in two.  Mendenhall added 4 runs batted in to help pitcher Morgan Parrish get the win and improve to (5-8).  Parrish allowed just two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out three.

Parkland Comes Up Short as Cavaliers Earn Sweep

April 21st, 2018

Game 2:

KCC would once again score late as they came away with the sweep in another low scoring affair. Shelby Youngblood got PC on the board early as she cracked a solo home run in the 1st. KCC would tie the game in the third on a two out single but PC would bounce right back as they took advantage of two Cavalier errors to score a run in the 4th.  Another two-out single, following a Cobra error, allowed KCC to tie the game in the 5thand they grabbed the lead for good in the 6th as they took advantage of a pair of walks to score the go-ahead run without getting a hit. Down a run, PC would threaten with a two-out double in the bottom of the 7th by Youngblood, but the game ended with a tapper back to the mound.  Youngblood provided most of the PC offense in the game as she had three of PC’s six hits.  Morgan Parrish took the loss despite allowing just four hits. She was victimized by her own wildness as she issued 6 walks and PC committed three costly errors.

Kankakee Shuts Out Cobras in Game One

April 21st, 2018

Game 1:

The game was scoreless until the 6th when KCC would score the only two runs of the contest.  The Cavaliers started the inning with a single and the next hitter reached base on a fielder’s choice as the KCC runner beat the throw to 2nd. Following a ground out, that put runners at 2nd and 3rd, a walk loaded the bases. The next hitter grounded sharply to 3rd and the Cobras tried to get the force at the plate but the throw was wide allowing KCC to get on the board.  Another ground ball plated a second run to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. PC would threaten in the bottom of the frame as they would get the first two runners on base, but with runners in scoring position, the next three hitters could not get a hit as PC stranded the tying runs. Tori Witruk was the tough luck loser as she did not allow an earned run while allowing just six hits and striking out three.

Two Shutouts Gives JWCC Sweep on the Day

April 12th, 2018

Game 2:

Cobra starter Kirbie Mendenhall retired 9 of the first 10 hitters but the wheels came off in the 4th thru 6th innings.  In the 4th the Blazers took advantage of a lead-off walk and a hit batsmen to score two runs and scored two more times in the 5th with the help of two Cobra errors. They would put the contest away scoring three times in the 6th as they used three hits, two walks, and an error to score their runs.  PC never really threatened in the contest as they failed to get a runner to 2nd base and were retired in order in four of the seven innings.  Makayla Reedy had two of the Cobras three hits.

Blazers Break Through Late to Take down Cobras

April 12th, 2018

Game 1:

A tight pitching duel turned into a John Wood  win as they scored four times in the 6thinning to earn the win. Cobra pitcher Tori Witruk cruised thru the first five innings allowing just two hits but the Parkland hitters were of no help, as JW retired the first 12 hitters of the game until Makayla Reedy led off the 5th inning with a single. She moved up to 2nd after a sacrifice bunt but was left stranded after an infield pop-up and a strikeout.  The Blazers used three doubles and a walk to score four times in the 6th and that would be all they would need as PC only managed one base runner over the final two innings.

Extra Innings Needed But Parkland Completes Sweep

April 22nd, 2017

Game 2: Parkland 7 Illinois Central 6 8 innings

Haley Ginger roped a one out double off the left field wall in the bottom of the 8th to drive home the game winner and give the Cobras the sweep. The game started out poorly for PC as ICC scored a pair of runs in the top of the 1st to grab the early lead. Brigette Belt’s sacrifice fly scored Ginger in the bottom of the 1st to cut the margin to one. The Cobras would grab the lead by scoring three times in the 2nd as they used three straight walks before a Maddy Shoemaker double drove in a pair and the third run came home on an Amber Tabeling walk. Parkland had just the one hit in the inning but walked six times off three different Cougar pitchers.

The game remained 4-2 PC until the top of the 6th when ICC scored a run to cut the lead to just one. Parkland would answer back as Ginger and Shoemaker both singled, moved into scoring position on a ground ball, and scored on a two run single by Catlin. ICC would not be denied however as they used three straight hits to start the inning to make the score 6-4 and plated two more runs via sacrifice flies to tie the contest. The Cobras did not score in the bottom of the 7th to send the game to extra innings.

With the international tie-breaker in place, ICC started the inning with a runner at 2nd and she moved to 3rd on an infield ground out. Relieve Lexie Black got a big strike out and then ended the inning with a another ground ball. PC would also start the inning with a runner on second but after a strikeout, Ginger roped a 1-2 pitch over the left fielders head for a game winning double. Ginger had three more hits in the finale as she went 6-7 on the afternoon with 3 runs scored. Maddy Shoemaker had two hits for PC who won despite getting out hit 12-6. Black (8-2) earned the win by working a perfect inning in relief of Catlin.

Game 1: Parkland 1 Illinois Central 0

The Cobras tossed their third straight shutout in the opener as Jaclyn Thompson pitcher her second gem in as many days to earn the win. Thompson (11-1) gave up just four hits while walking three and striking out three. Parkland would score the only run of the contest in the 6th as Haley Ginger led off the inning with a single but was still at 2nd with two outs after a strikeout and ground out. Sophie Catlin hit the first pitch up the middle for a single to score Ginger for the game winner. Thompson battled out of a jam in the 7th as the Cougars had runners on the corners with two out but she got the ICC lead-off hitter to fly out to center to end the game. Ginger paced the Cobra attack as she was a perfect 3-3.

April 17th, 2016

Game 2:

Parkland made sure they would not fall victim to another John Wood upset as the Cobras scored six times in the first to grab a quick 6-0 lead. The first six batters all reached based and three came home on a towering blast by Megan Tool. John Wood came back with two runs off the Cobras in the 2nd but PC would tack on four in the 3rd as Megan Magsamen crushed a grand slam homer. John Wood scored an unearned run in the 4th to make it 10-3 but PC scored twice in the bottom of the inning as Monica Monroe drove in a pair with a single. Winning pitcher Erin Walker worked a 1-2-3 5th  to earn her second win in as many days over the Blazers as the game ended by the run rule. Walker improved to (12-3) allowing just two earned runs on five hits. She did not walk a batter for the second straight day.   Ginger capped an outstanding day as she went 2-3 with three runs scored.
