Parkland Sweeps Lincoln to End Busy Week

April 22nd, 2018

Game 2:

After neither team scored in the first two innings, PC broke the game open with a  five-run 3rd, scoring all five runs after two were out.  The inning started quietly enough as the first two hitters grounded out but then Lauren Spelich was hit by a pitch, Kyliegh Basham singled, and Ivy Nichols walked to load the bases. Shelby Youngblood plated the first two runs with a single and Kirbie Mendenhall cracked her first home run of the season, a three run shot.  Lincoln got two of the runs back in the 4th inning but PC answered back with four runs in the 5th to end the game. PC used six straight singles in the inning as Basham and Youngblood each drove in a pair. Youngblood went 3-3 with 4 RBI in the game while Basham had two hits, scored twice, and drove in two.  Mendenhall added 4 runs batted in to help pitcher Morgan Parrish get the win and improve to (5-8).  Parrish allowed just two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out three.

Parkland Finishes Off the Hawks for Sweep on the Day

April 21st, 2018

Game 2:

Three Cobra hurlers limited the Hawks to just two runs on three hits and Parkland once again used the home run to earn the win.  PC got on the board in the 2nd as Wisz and Max Downs walked and Paulsen followed with an RBI single. Two more runs would score via an error by the Hawks shortstop. Trystin Raikes made it 4-0 in the 3rd as he hit is 8thround tripper of the year.  Heartland threatened to get right back in the game in the 4thas they quickly loaded the bases with nobody out.  A long double off the left field wall made it 4-2 and left the tying runs on 2nd and 3rd with still no outs.  The next play may have turned the whole game around as the Hawks hit a fly ball to medium left field which appeared to be deep enough to chase home another Heartland run. However, PC alertly appealed that the runner left early, and the home plate umpired agreed, as he called the runner out and PC was able to wiggle out of the inning with no more runs scoring.

PC would add salt to the Hawks wound as they quickly got those two runs back in the bottom of the frame as Joyce doubled and Connor Aube crushed his 4th home run of the season to make it 6-2. Both teams would threaten to score over the final three innings but could not plate any more runs. Jack Lambert worked four solid innings to pick up the win and improve to (3-0).  Ty McCulloch worked a perfect 5th and 6th innings not allowing a hit while striking out three. Tom Cheshareck was called on to close things out and after the first two hitters reached on an error and a walk, he settled down to retire the next three hitters to preserve the win.

#9 Cobras End 18 Game Win Streak of #2 Heartland

April 21st, 2018

Game 1:

Luke Smith went the distance, holding the Hawks to just one run on three hits, while the Cobra offense scored early and often to earn the win. Smith improved to (5-1) as he gave up just a single run in the 4th as he walked three and struck out six. PC jumped out quickly scoring three times in the 1st and four more in the 3rd.  Brendan Joyce got things started with a single and he came all the way around to score on Trevor Minder’s triple. Trystin Raikes drove Minder home with a single while Max Downs and Tyler Paulsen also drove in runs in the inning.  The Cobras used the long ball in the 3rd as Paulsen’s three-run homer, his team leading 9th on the season, made it 6-0 and Nick Wisz followed with his 3rd home run of the year.  That would be all the runs Smith would need as PC ended the Hawks winning streak with the victory.

Parkland Comes Up Short as Cavaliers Earn Sweep

April 21st, 2018

Game 2:

KCC would once again score late as they came away with the sweep in another low scoring affair. Shelby Youngblood got PC on the board early as she cracked a solo home run in the 1st. KCC would tie the game in the third on a two out single but PC would bounce right back as they took advantage of two Cavalier errors to score a run in the 4th.  Another two-out single, following a Cobra error, allowed KCC to tie the game in the 5thand they grabbed the lead for good in the 6th as they took advantage of a pair of walks to score the go-ahead run without getting a hit. Down a run, PC would threaten with a two-out double in the bottom of the 7th by Youngblood, but the game ended with a tapper back to the mound.  Youngblood provided most of the PC offense in the game as she had three of PC’s six hits.  Morgan Parrish took the loss despite allowing just four hits. She was victimized by her own wildness as she issued 6 walks and PC committed three costly errors.

Kankakee Shuts Out Cobras in Game One

April 21st, 2018

Game 1:

The game was scoreless until the 6th when KCC would score the only two runs of the contest.  The Cavaliers started the inning with a single and the next hitter reached base on a fielder’s choice as the KCC runner beat the throw to 2nd. Following a ground out, that put runners at 2nd and 3rd, a walk loaded the bases. The next hitter grounded sharply to 3rd and the Cobras tried to get the force at the plate but the throw was wide allowing KCC to get on the board.  Another ground ball plated a second run to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. PC would threaten in the bottom of the frame as they would get the first two runners on base, but with runners in scoring position, the next three hitters could not get a hit as PC stranded the tying runs. Tori Witruk was the tough luck loser as she did not allow an earned run while allowing just six hits and striking out three.

Cobras Complete Sweep of John Wood

April 14th, 2018

Game 2:

Trystin Raikes two run homer over the left field wall, his sixth round tripper of the season, helped the Cobras get the win in game two. Tied at 1, Raikes blast easily cleared the wall to give PC a 3-1 lead after three innings. After the Blazers got one of those runs back in the 4th, PC would answer back with two in the 5th.  Connor Aube singled, moved to second on a balk, and came home on Raikes single. He would later score on a Christian Sanchez single.  Jack Lambert (2-0) worked the first four innings allowing a run on three hits while striking out five. Zach Acton worked the final three innings to pick up his second save of the season.  After giving up a run in the 5th and 6th, Acton retired the side in order in the 7th to earn the save.  Raikes paced the offense with two hits and three RBI while Minder and Tyler Paulsen each had two hits.

April 12th, 2018

Game 2:

Cobra starter Kirbie Mendenhall retired 9 of the first 10 hitters but the wheels came off in the 4th thru 6th innings.  In the 4th the Blazers took advantage of a lead-off walk and a hit batsmen to score two runs and scored two more times in the 5th with the help of two Cobra errors. They would put the contest away scoring three times in the 6th as they used three hits, two walks, and an error to score their runs.  PC never really threatened in the contest as they failed to get a runner to 2nd base and were retired in order in four of the seven innings.  Makayla Reedy had two of the Cobras three hits.

Blazers Break Through Late to Take down Cobras

April 12th, 2018

Game 1:

A tight pitching duel turned into a John Wood  win as they scored four times in the 6thinning to earn the win. Cobra pitcher Tori Witruk cruised thru the first five innings allowing just two hits but the Parkland hitters were of no help, as JW retired the first 12 hitters of the game until Makayla Reedy led off the 5th inning with a single. She moved up to 2nd after a sacrifice bunt but was left stranded after an infield pop-up and a strikeout.  The Blazers used three doubles and a walk to score four times in the 6th and that would be all they would need as PC only managed one base runner over the final two innings.
